Cover Songs- The ones I like and think you should listen to.

I love cover songs. The stranger the better and there is a lot of strange cover songs out there. I have collected some of my favourite here. Not all of them are my favourite or even I like. They are just ones I think you need to hear. I have tried to put the original and the cover so you can compare if you don't know the song. I have linked them all to You Tube videos. Sorry if any of them you have to watch adverts first. If any of the links are dead or if you have any you think I should listen to then contact me.  You can comment on them right at the bottom if you like. If you comment on the You Tube video I will probably not read it...

Hot N Cold by Ukrainian Polka Band. I have no idea what they say at the beginning but this is the funniest version of Katy Perry's Hot N Cold you will ever hear. My favourite part is the random "Fuck You" which seem to enhance the song. Be warned though you will never be able to listen to the original without hearing this version in your head. I have no information about these people or who they are but this is a great video regardless.

It Was A Good Day by Holmes. Holmes lead singer is called Roy and is white. While the original is by Ice Cube who is black. The cover is completely different to the original and I think far better. Slowed down and done more as a ballad it works and is a completely different song. While some covers which are "different" it is in a strange bizarre way this is a genuinely nice song. They also do a great version of Don't Go by Yaz.

Oops I Did It Again- Max Raabe- Covered tons of times in every possible way this is the strangest. Imagine a 1920's German swing band doing a cover of Britney Spears. You can't can you? This changes the whole dynamic of the song and to be honest you can imagine him singing this in a pre war German music hall. Also you can play this recording and convince someone this Britney Spears  song was actually a cover of a 1920's German song. Our Max also does Tainted Love, Lady Marmalde and We Will Rock You among other songs.

Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds by Big Daddy. Again a completely different version of a song but it really works. Big Daddy are a modern band who do 1950s and 1960 covers of songs. Had this song been recorded in the rock and roll peak before everyone found drugs rather than at the end of the 60's then it might have sounded a bit like this.

Fireflies by Cheryl Cole. I am not really a big fan of our Cheryl. I think this is a great cut back version of Owl City. She may not be the world's best singer or even a great singer but her voice perfectly fits this song even with the bits where she is out of key. Also she still sings it a thousand times better than I could.

We are the World 2011 by Isle of Wight UniteOriginally by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie this was covered by a group of singers from Isle Of Wight for the excellent Earl Mountbatten Hospice charity. I think personally its better and its a shame it didn't do better than it did.

99 Problems by Hugo.  Like It Was A Good day this is a completely different version of a rap/RnB song by Jay-Z and really works on its own competely changing the dynamic of the song.

Fluorescent Adolescent by Kate Nash. This song is pretty much similar to the original but with a female vocal. I am a big fan of Kate Nash and despite being a cover is one of my favourite songs by her. The audio is a bit ropey in the Kate Nash song but it seems to be the same on all the You Tube videos.

I will Always Love You by LeLe.  This is a really different version of this Dolly Parton song. It changes the whole song to the point its unrecognisable apart from the lyrics. This is a really good song. LeLe are a Dutch band and have some good songs if a bit weird videos.
